Alhambra police report 200-kilogram cocaine seizure
Police said K-9 Otis alerted officers to an SUV packed with boxes during a traffic stop near the 710 Freeway.
Alhambra police said officers recovered approximately 200 kilograms—about 440 pounds—of suspected cocaine from an SUV stopped near Valley Boulevard and the 710 Freeway. The department did not disclose what prompted the traffic stop or the exact date it occurred.
According to the department's account, officers noticed numerous cardboard boxes inside the vehicle and called K-9 Otis and his handler to the scene. Police said the dog alerted to the SUV before officers found the packages.
Driver arrested
Police identified the driver as Julio Rangel of Huntington Park and said he was booked into the Alhambra Police Department jail. Authorities had not publicly detailed formal charges when ABC7 reported the seizure Monday.
The arrest does not establish guilt, and the case may be reviewed by prosecutors before any criminal charges are filed.
