Alhambra voters to decide citywide data-center ban
Measure DB asks voters on November 3 whether to affirm the City Council’s prohibition by barring data centers in every zone of the city.
Alhambra voters will decide Measure DB in the November 3 municipal election. A “yes” vote would add the city’s definition of a data center to the municipal code and state that the facilities are prohibited in all Alhambra zoning districts.
Measure: Alhambra Measure DB
Election date: November 3, 2026
Approval required: A majority of votes cast on the measure
What the measure would do
The proposed language defines data centers as facilities primarily used to analyze, process, store, convert, transmit, distribute or manage electronic data. It excludes data equipment that is incidental to another primary use and supports only that on-site operation.
The City Council adopted a zoning update in June that classified data centers and prohibited them in employment districts while not listing them as permitted in other zones. Measure DB would put the citywide prohibition into a voter-approved ordinance.
