Alpine animal sanctuary faces major repairs after storm damage
Lions Tigers & Bears is repairing flooded offices, damaged fencing and uprooted trees while staff continue caring for the animals.
Staff at Lions Tigers & Bears in Alpine are working through a substantial cleanup after heavy rain and wind damaged several parts of the animal sanctuary, ABC 10News reported Sunday morning.
Floodwater entered downstairs offices and the gift shop, where crews have removed damaged drywall and deployed fans and dehumidifiers. The storm also uprooted trees and damaged fencing in animal areas.
Location: Alpine, San Diego County
Damage: Flooded offices and gift shop, uprooted trees and damaged fencing
Estimated repairs: Potentially tens of thousands of dollars
Animal care continues during cleanup
Sanctuary founder Bobbi Brink told the station that tractor work alone costs about $2,500 per day. Staff are relocating animals when necessary and continuing routine care while repairs proceed.
The sanctuary is also planning repairs intended to reduce future storm damage. Brink said scheduled events, including an October 23 campover, are expected to continue.
