The Los Angeles Angels declined the 2027 option in manager Kurt Suzuki’s contract Wednesday, the club announced. Suzuki was offered a special-assistant role, while the team begins a search for a new manager.

2026 record: 62–100

Managerial tenure: One season

Next step: Search for a new manager and coaching staff

A broader offseason reset

Suzuki’s first year as manager ended with the first 100-loss season in franchise history. MLB.com reported that baseball operations consultant John Mozeliak made the decision after discussions with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which is expected to complete its purchase of the club in early 2027.

The Associated Press reported that some coaches have been offered other positions in the organization, but the current staff is not expected to return intact. The next manager will inherit a club that has missed the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons.
