The memorial, called Wings Over Big Bear, brought residents and visitors together Saturday to remember Jackie, whose nesting life with mate Shadow was followed by millions through the Friends of Big Bear Valley livestream. Jackie died in August after a brief illness.

The Los Angeles Times reported that organizers estimated attendance at about 2,000. Local, state and federal officials joined the gathering, where speakers described Jackie's importance to the community and to wildlife conservation around Big Bear Lake.

Art and shared memories

A commemorative painting by local artist Jillana Marshall was unveiled, while muralist Wes Abarca created a tribute during the event. CBS Los Angeles reported that Big Bear Mayor Randall Putz said the turnout exceeded expectations.

Jackie's influence extended beyond the nest camera. Community leaders said her story helped connect people to the San Bernardino National Forest and strengthened support for preserving bald-eagle habitat in the Big Bear Valley.
