AltaMed reports lingering health effects after Boyle Heights warehouse fire

Clinic data from the 100 days after the Lineage fire in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, showed increases in respiratory, gastrointestinal and mental-health diagnoses.

Health care providers in Boyle Heights say physical and mental-health effects are continuing 100 days after the Lineage Logistics warehouse fire, ABC7 Los Angeles reported September 25. AltaMed, which treated nearly 40,000 patients in the area during the period, compared diagnoses after the June 17 fire with the same period in 2025.

What it means locally

AltaMed reported increases of 19.9% in respiratory diagnoses, 24.2% in eye and upper-airway irritation, nearly 28% in gastrointestinal illnesses and 36% in depression diagnoses. The figures show a change in clinic visits after the fire but do not by themselves establish that the blaze caused every diagnosis. Doctors said uncertainty about the chemicals released into air and soil makes long-term care planning difficult. The Los Angeles Fire Department says the fire’s cause remains officially undetermined.
