Cal State faculty strike-authorization vote set to open Monday
Faculty members represented by the California Faculty Association are set to vote from October 26 through November 19 on whether to authorize possible job action as contract negotiations with the CSU system continue.
LAist, republishing EdSource reporting, said the California Faculty Association is seeking authorization for a strike while bargaining remains unresolved. The union represents about 29,000 faculty members and other employees across the CSU system, including campuses serving Southern California.
Vote window: October 26–November 19
What it would do: Give union leadership authority to call job action if the legal bargaining process is exhausted
What it would not do: Automatically begin a strike
Negotiations remain in the statutory process
The faculty association says the parties are moving toward factfinding after mediation. It identifies salary, workload, lecturer protections, academic freedom and artificial-intelligence safeguards among the unresolved issues. A favorable authorization vote is a preparatory step, the union says, rather than a guarantee that instruction will stop.
