California awards film credits to 35 projects, including Last Friday
The California Film Commission says the latest award round is expected to generate $1.08 billion in direct in-state production spending and thousands of jobs.
Thirty-five films received awards in the latest round of California's expanded Film and Television Tax Credit Program, the California Film Commission announced October 7. The list includes 28 independent films as well as studio projects from Warner Bros., Pixar and New Line Cinema.
Projected California spending: $1.08 billion
Cast and crew jobs: 5,453
California shooting days: 1,049
A South Los Angeles franchise returns
Among the projects is Last Friday, the next installment in Ice Cube's comedy franchise. The actor, writer and producer said the film will be produced in Southern California with more than 180 local cast and crew members.
The commission projects the full group of productions will also account for 24,842 background-performer workdays and 457 filming days outside the state's traditional studio zone.
Production incentives, not release dates
The awards are incentives for qualifying production work in California. They do not establish release dates, and individual films will set their own production and distribution schedules.
