LA’s California Tip Toppers seek new generation of members
A Los Angeles social club for tall people that dates to 1938 is trying to recruit younger members, saying its future depends on restoring the community and activity that weakened after the pandemic.
The California Tip Toppers began in Los Angeles in 1938 and became the original chapter of the wider Tall Clubs International network, LAist reported. The organization brings tall adults together for social events and shares practical advice about everyday fit, travel and clothing.
Founded: Los Angeles, 1938
Chapter: California Tip Toppers
Membership threshold: 6 feet 4 inches for men and 6 feet for women
Current focus: Recruiting younger members
Keeping a long-running community active
Members told LAist that some chapters have lost momentum as longtime participants age and social routines changed after COVID-19. Michele Cripps and William Walter Wiseman II, members who live in Torrance, said they hope renewed events and outreach can bring another generation into the local group.
The broader organization also points members toward scholarships for tall students and raises money for the Marfan Foundation. People interested in joining can find chapter contacts through Tall Clubs International.
