Cole’s French Dip plans to reopen in November under new ownership, CBS Los Angeles reported Thursday. The Sixth Street restaurant closed in March after operating in downtown Los Angeles for 118 years.

Founded: 1908

Location: Pacific Electric Building, Sixth Street

Planned return: November 2026

Managing partner Sean Maloney told CBS that construction is nearly finished. Planned changes include a semi-private area for large parties, a piano, new cocktails and a revised version of the restaurant’s namesake sandwich.

Historic details will remain

The new operators plan to preserve Cole’s original stained glass, light fixtures and other familiar elements while combining the restaurant’s classic atmosphere with a more modern approach, CBS reported.

Cole’s opened in 1908 and has long claimed to have invented the French dip sandwich. The Los Angeles Times reported that the comeback is being led by hospitality entrepreneur Jeremy Fall and Maloney, formerly an executive with Mozza Restaurant Group, with a target of mid- to late November.

An exact opening date had not been announced by publication time.
