Corona police arrest two teens in alleged school attack plot
Police say an FBI alert led to the arrests of two 15-year-old students accused of discussing an attack at Corona High School. Investigators found no weapons.
The FBI alerted Corona Police on October 6 to online conversations about a possible threat to Corona High School, according to an October 20 city news release. Police said investigators arrested a 15-year-old Corona High student and later identified and arrested a 15-year-old Norco High student.
Schools: Corona High School and Norco High School
Investigation began: October 6, after an FBI alert
Weapons found: None, according to police
Status: Riverside County prosecutors are reviewing the case
Police describe months of alleged planning
Detectives served search warrants for electronic devices and communications and searched several Riverside County residences. Police said the evidence showed the students had spent months researching school shootings and discussing how they could carry out an attack at Corona High on an unspecified future date.
Investigators said the teens discussed ways to obtain weapons but had not acquired any. Corona Police Lt. Robert Montanez told the Los Angeles Times that investigators found a list of students and teachers whom the teens allegedly intended to target, and that revenge appeared to be a motive.
Police said both juveniles remained in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Their identities were not released because of their age.
The arrests and police statements are allegations, not proof of guilt. No attack occurred, no one was injured, and no weapons were recovered.
