Suspect arrested in Culver CityBus driver killing
Los Angeles police arrested a passenger accused of fatally shooting a Culver CityBus driver in Mar Vista and booked him on suspicion of murder.

A Culver CityBus driver was fatally shot aboard the bus in Mar Vista on October 1 after an argument with a passenger, CBS Los Angeles reported, citing the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said the shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. near South Centinela and Mitchell avenues and that the driver died after being taken to a hospital.
What it means locally
Investigators said the passenger fled with a bicycle after the shooting. Officers arrested 55-year-old Jose Zayas nearly a day later in the 3600 block of Motor Avenue. Police booked him on suspicion of murder and set bail at $3 million; detectives planned to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.
Culver CityBus service remained suspended through the weekend so employees could grieve. The accompanying photograph shows a Culver CityBus at the LAX City Bus Center in September 2011 and is archival; it does not depict the shooting, victim, suspect or response.
