Peanuts mural brings community art to East LA hospital
More than 100 hospital workers, patients and local students helped color the six-panel artwork before its permanent installation.
Los Angeles Community Hospital in East Los Angeles has received a permanent Peanuts mural created through a collaboration between Peanuts Worldwide and the nonprofit Foundation for Hospital Art, NBC Los Angeles reported.
Participants: More than 100 doctors, nurses, patients and Eastman Elementary School students
Artwork: Six panels measuring 56 by 49 inches
Location: Los Angeles Community Hospital in East Los Angeles
Partners: Peanuts Worldwide and the Foundation for Hospital Art
A community coloring project
The group gathered Wednesday to color the panels before the completed mural was installed at the hospital. The artwork recreates the familiar football scene with Lucy and Charlie Brown from “It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” which marks its 60th anniversary this year.
Dr. Philip Fagan Jr., the hospital's chief of staff, told NBC Los Angeles that the painting activity gave children and staff a chance to focus, take pride in the finished work and add something welcoming to a hospital serving an underserved community.
A permanent installation
The mural will remain at the hospital rather than serving as a temporary event display. Los Angeles Community Hospital says it serves more than 13,000 patients annually from its East Olympic Boulevard campus.
