Metro breaks ground on East San Fernando Valley light rail
Los Angeles County Metro held a groundbreaking Monday for a 6.7-mile light-rail line planned along Van Nuys Boulevard.
Metro says the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project will include 11 stations serving Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima. Major construction is expected to begin soon, with completion targeted for 2032.
Length: 6.7 miles
Stations: 11
Planned completion: 2032
Main corridor: Van Nuys Boulevard
New connections across the Valley
The line is planned to connect with the G Line, local bus routes and the Van Nuys Metrolink and Amtrak station. Metro also plans streetscape and sidewalk upgrades, safer pedestrian crossings and an improved roadway design.
Metro said the project would return rail service to Van Nuys Boulevard for the first time since Pacific Electric streetcars stopped running there in 1952. The two Metro bus routes currently serving the corridor recorded nearly 20,000 boardings in September.
