12 unvoted mail ballots recovered after Escondido-area road discovery
San Diego County election officials said there is no indication of voter fraud and are working with the U.S. Postal Service to determine how the mail was misplaced.
Twelve unvoted mail-ballot packets and other election materials were recovered after being found Thursday along Lake Wohlford Road near Escondido, according to ABC 10News and the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.
A resident reported the scattered mail to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. Another driver collected the materials and delivered them to the Valley Center Post Office, the station reported.

Officials say ballots were not cast
The Registrar of Voters said there was no indication anyone tried to vote using the recovered ballots and no indication they went missing while in the registrar’s custody. The office said the Postal Service redelivered the materials to voters in Pauma Valley and Valley Center.
Officials have not determined how the election mail reached the roadway. The registrar said it is working with the Postal Service to identify where the materials were misplaced in the mailstream.
