Highland Park community urges stronger campus safety after student’s death
Students, parents and residents gathered at Franklin High, seeking more supervision and action against bullying after a 17-year-old died on campus.
Students, parents and Highland Park residents demonstrated outside Benjamin Franklin High School Thursday night, calling for increased campus supervision following a student's September 30 death, ABC7 reported.
Community request: More campus supervision and security
Official finding: The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled the death a suicide
Police review: Active and ongoing
Officials say investigation continues
The student's family and classmates have raised concerns that bullying may have played a role. LAPD said detectives are reviewing those allegations but had not identified evidence establishing a connection as of its preliminary assessment.
Community members also placed flowers and candles at a memorial on campus. The gathering drew students and families seeking both answers and measures intended to prevent future harm.
