A storm system is increasingly likely to bring measurable rain to much of Southern California from Friday into Halloween weekend, though forecasters say the details can still change.

In an early Sunday forecast discussion, the National Weather Service office in Oxnard said it has high confidence that most or all of the region will see measurable rainfall from Friday through the weekend. The office cautioned that the timing and total rainfall remain uncertain.

Current outlook: Rain becomes increasingly likely late Thursday into the weekend

Confidence: High for measurable rain somewhere across most of the region; low for exact timing and totals

Potential effect: Halloween activities could be affected by rain

Forecast remains subject to change

The NWS said different forecast-model scenarios point to a wet, unsettled weekend, but diverge on the storm’s track and strength. The agency’s discussion said earlier estimates of roughly one-half inch to two inches remain possible, while stressing that the eventual totals could be higher or lower.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a rainy Halloween in Los Angeles would be unusual; the last recorded Halloween rainfall downtown was in 2014. Residents should check updated forecasts and local advisories as the weekend approaches.
