Hollywood Burbank Airport’s $1.3 billion terminal clears final trial run

About 1,500 volunteers tested parking, check-in, security, gates and baggage claim before the replacement terminal’s planned October 13 opening.

Hollywood Burbank Airport completed its final public trial of a new $1.3 billion passenger terminal, the Los Angeles Times reported September 26. About 1,500 volunteers moved through the facility as mock travelers, testing the parking structure, airline counters, baggage drops, TSA screening, gates and baggage claim before the terminal opens to passengers.

What it means locally

Airport spokesperson Mike Christensen told the Times that feedback from the September 19 trial was 98% positive, with signage and wayfinding identified as the main area needing improvement. The replacement terminal is scheduled to open October 13 and will retire facilities that date to the 1930s while addressing federal safety concerns. The new parking structure has about 2,000 spaces and 310 electric-vehicle charging ports.
