Lightning halts Head Trip’s opening night before Calvin Harris set

Organizers told festivalgoers to leave Indio’s Empire Polo Club and seek shelter in vehicles as severe weather moved through the Coachella Valley.

Head Trip ended its Saturday program early after lightning triggered a weather suspension at the Empire Polo Club. Organizers announced shortly before 9:30 p.m. that the show would not resume that night, KESQ reported.

Location: Empire Polo Club, Indio

Saturday status: Ended early after a lightning alert

Interrupted headliner: Calvin Harris had not yet taken the stage

Schedule had already been moved up

The festival had adjusted Saturday’s schedule earlier in the day because lightning was expected. ABC7 reported that screens and a loudspeaker directed attendees to return to their vehicles and seek shelter. Calvin Harris, originally scheduled for 11 p.m., did not perform before the shutdown.

AXS lists Head Trip as a two-day Goldenvoice event running October 10–11, with a lineup that includes Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, FISHER and Chris Lake. ABC7 said the storm’s effect on Sunday’s lineup was not yet known in its October 11 report.
