Newport Beach resident José Hernández has received his 11th Latin Grammy nomination for his work with Mariachi Sol de México, the Los Angeles Times Daily Pilot reported September 26. The band’s album “El Voz De Mi Trompeta (50 años)” is nominated for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album.

Hernández, 68, founded Mariachi Sol de México after beginning his professional career as a teenager, including an early job with Disneyland’s first mariachi band. The September 16 nomination is his 15th Grammy nomination overall when the Latin Grammys and U.S. Grammy Awards are counted together. His 10-track album, released in August 2025, marks five decades in mariachi and features instrumental interpretations and original compositions. The Latin Grammy ceremony is scheduled for November 12 in Las Vegas.
