Los Angeles approves record $466.6 million affordable-housing funding round

The City Council unanimously approved its largest affordable-housing funding pool, with roughly 70% backed by Measure ULA.

Los Angeles City Council voted to make $466.6 million available to developers, nonprofits, land trusts and other groups for affordable-housing construction and renovation. Applications are scheduled to open October 13 and close December 4, with recipients expected in February. The spending plan still requires Mayor Karen Bass’ approval.

What it means locally

The funding is divided among several housing strategies, including larger multifamily developments, projects seeking low-income housing tax credits, alternative construction models, property acquisition and rehabilitation, and preservation of existing affordable units.

The council added a requirement for quarterly Housing Department updates on spending, schedules and significant delays. The approval opens a funding process; it does not mean all projects or recipients have already been selected.
