Poll finds Roy leads L.A. city attorney race as 70% remain undecided

A UC Berkeley IGS survey gives Marissa Roy a 10-point advantage over John McKinney, but seven in 10 likely Los Angeles voters had no opinion of either candidate.

California Deputy Attorney General Marissa Roy holds a 10-percentage-point lead over Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John McKinney in the Los Angeles city attorney race, according to a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll reported by the Los Angeles Times on September 27. The large undecided share leaves the November 3 contest open: roughly 70% of likely voters had no opinion of either candidate.

What it means locally

The city attorney represents Los Angeles in civil litigation, helps shape city ordinances and prosecutes misdemeanors through an office with a budget of nearly $200 million. Poll respondents most often identified moving unhoused people indoors and crime and public safety as top priorities, with city infrastructure close behind.
