LA County advises against ocean water contact after rain

A rain advisory covers every Los Angeles County beach through at least 3 p.m. Saturday, October 24, after storm runoff reached coastal waters.

Published October 23, 2026

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is advising people to avoid swimming, surfing and playing in ocean water during the countywide advisory. Officials singled out areas near storm drains, creeks and rivers, where runoff can carry bacteria, debris and other contaminants into the ocean.

Area: All Los Angeles County beaches

Current end time: At least 3 p.m. Saturday, October 24

Guidance: Avoid ocean water, especially near flowing runoff

Advisory could be extended

County officials say rain advisories generally remain in effect for 72 hours after rainfall ends. The current advisory may be extended if more rain falls, so beachgoers should check the county’s live water-quality page before entering the ocean.

ABC7 reported Friday morning that drier and warmer conditions were expected to return as the storm moved out, but the county’s water-contact guidance remained active.
