LA28 disclosures draw demand for fuller financial records

A Los Angeles Times review found recent annual reports omitted contractor and venue details required by the city agreement; LA28 says it supplied the required records through other channels.

Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia is seeking more detailed financial and contracting records from LA28 after a Los Angeles Times review found that recent annual reports did not include information called for in the organizing committee's 2021 Games Agreement with the city. Los Angeles has agreed to help cover any Olympic deficit, making the reporting dispute relevant to local taxpayers.

What it means locally

The Times reported that LA28's 2024 and 2025 annual reports stopped naming individual contractors and amounts for agreements worth more than $1 million, instead listing broad work categories as total contract value rose from $36.2 million to $687 million. The reports also lacked venue infrastructure schedules and budgets. LA28 said it has given the city the records required by the agreement, although some were provided outside the annual reports, and noted that prior submissions were accepted. City budget and legislative analysts have asked LA28 for a written list of the large contractors.
