Los Angeles records more than 12,000 homeless-related fires this year
LAFD data show 12,241 fires classified as homeless- or encampment-related through September 20, averaging 47 incidents a day.
Los Angeles firefighters recorded 12,241 incidents classified as “Homeless or Encampment Related” from January 1 through September 20, according to Los Angeles Fire Department data obtained and analyzed by ABC7’s 7 On Your Side Investigates and ABC Data Team. The total was about 6% lower than during the same period in 2025, but still averaged 47 fires each day.
What it means locally
ABC7 reported that more than 10,000 of the incidents were trash fires. The data also included 189 vegetation or brush fires, 173 vehicle fires and 153 structure fires. The investigation found concentrations along the 10 Freeway corridor and in Skid Row, where an LAFD rapid-response team handles repeated rubbish-fire calls.
