Lucas Museum welcomes the public at its new Exposition Park home

Opening-day visitors explored a Los Angeles museum devoted to visual storytelling across illustration, comics, film, murals and fine art.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art welcomed the public in Exposition Park on September 22 after years of planning and construction. Los Angeles Times reporting from opening day described crowds of local, domestic and international visitors exploring the Ma Yansong-designed building. The museum says its 300,000-square-foot home includes more than 100,000 square feet of gallery space, two theaters, a research library and a new park and gardens.

What it means locally

The museum is not limited to Star Wars. Its galleries bring together illustration, comics, animation, murals, cinema and fine art, while the Lucas Archives represent one part of the broader collection. The opening also adds a major cultural destination to Exposition Park near USC and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
