Malibu beach erosion closes Westward Beach Road near Sunset Restaurant
Powerful surf stripped away shoreline south of Zuma Beach, exposing a water main and forcing closures while crews worked to protect the road.
Crews placed large boulders along the coast as waves threatened Westward Beach Road and the Sunset Restaurant, ABC7 reported Tuesday. Water service was shut off after erosion exposed a nearby water main.
Road status: Blocked for repairs, according to ABC7
City advisory: Westward Beach Road beyond the pay gate and Point Dume Beach parking lot remain listed as closed
Duration: Until further notice
Repairs and monitoring continue
ABC7 reported that officials were monitoring conditions to determine when the road could reopen safely. The City of Malibu’s active beach-advisory page continues to list Westward Beach Road beyond the pay gate and the Point Dume Beach parking lot as closed until further notice; that advisory was originally posted August 1.
