Mattel names Roger Lynch CEO as Ynon Kreiz departs
The El Segundo toy company appointed the departing Condé Nast chief and longtime Mattel director as it works to extend brands such as Barbie beyond the toy aisle.
El Segundo-based Mattel appointed Roger Lynch as its next chief executive on September 30, the Los Angeles Times reported. Lynch, who has led Condé Nast since 2019 and served on Mattel’s board since 2018, will succeed Ynon Kreiz, who is leaving to become co-chief executive of the combined Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery company.
What it means locally
Mattel said Lynch will become chairman October 2 and chief executive on or before November 2. The leadership transition comes as the company seeks to turn toy properties into film, television and digital businesses after the 2023 “Barbie” success. The Times reported that Mattel posted an $18 million second-quarter loss even as sales increased 10% to $1.1 billion, and that its shares had fallen more than 35% during 2026. Lynch previously led Pandora and Sling TV before Condé Nast.
