Mission Viejo gardener helps woman and two dogs escape garage fire
A gardener who noticed smoke alerted a sleeping resident, helped her and two dogs get outside, then used a hose on the flames until firefighters arrived.
NBC Los Angeles reported that the gardener was working outside a Mission Viejo home Thursday morning when he spotted fire and smoke coming from the garage. He and a neighbor rang the doorbell, waking the woman inside and giving her time to leave with the dogs.
Incident: Garage fire in Mission Viejo
Response: Gardener and neighbor alerted the resident
Escaped: One woman and two dogs
Injuries: None reported
Quick response before crews arrived
The gardener used a garden hose to slow the fire while waiting for the Orange County Fire Authority. The agency confirmed to NBC that the fire began shortly after 7 a.m. The official cause remained undetermined; the family's belief that a charging e-bike battery may have been involved had not been confirmed by investigators.
