VMAs return to Los Angeles as Madonna leads winners
Madonna collected seven awards at the Peacock Theater ceremony, while Taylor Swift won Video of the Year and Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award.
The MTV Video Music Awards returned to Los Angeles on September 27, with Madonna leading the night with seven wins, according to MTV’s official results. The ceremony at the Peacock Theater marked the show’s first Los Angeles edition since 2017.
What it means locally
Madonna won Artist of the Year and awards for collaboration, dance, cinematography, choreography, long-form video and album. Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” won Video of the Year, and Swift also received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award, BTS won Song of the Year and Best K-pop, and Sienna Spiro was named Best New Artist.
