Authorities say 28 people will face drug charges in Skid Row operation
Federal agents and Los Angeles police served 44 search warrants across Los Angeles County during a coordinated operation centered in Downtown LA.
Authorities announced that 28 people face drug-related charges following a law-enforcement action called Operation Skid Row, KABC reported October 8. The FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and Los Angeles Police Department participated in the operation.
Search warrants: 44 across Los Angeles County
People taken into custody: 14
Announced defendants: 28
Operation centered near Fifth and Crocker streets
The report said about 100 law-enforcement vehicles were involved and the sweep focused on the area around Fifth and Crocker streets in Skid Row. Officials said the operation targeted alleged drug sellers rather than people experiencing homelessness.
Investigators allege that some suspects disguised themselves as unhoused residents or social workers to blend into the neighborhood. Those claims are allegations; the people charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
A developing case
KABC reported that 14 people were taken into custody on suspicion of drug distribution. Further details about the charges and defendants were not immediately included in the breaking report.
