Padres clinch third straight postseason berth with 4–2 win over Dodgers

San Diego secured its fifth playoff trip in seven seasons and remains in position to host a Wild Card Series at Petco Park.

The San Diego Padres clinched their third consecutive postseason appearance with a 4–2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium, MLB.com reported early September 25. It is the first time in franchise history that the Padres have reached the playoffs in three straight seasons, and their fifth postseason berth in seven years.

What it means locally

Ethan Salas broke up Tyler Glasnow’s no-hit bid in the sixth inning and scored the game’s first run. San Diego added three runs in the seventh, while Nick Pivetta worked 4⅔ scoreless innings and Mason Miller recorded his 38th save. The Padres were still competing for the top National League Wild Card seed, which would bring the best-of-three opening round to Petco Park.
