Padres place Walker Buehler on paternity list for NLDS
San Diego added Randy Vásquez to the active roster before Game 1 against Milwaukee; Buehler may return for Game 3.
Major League Baseball announced Saturday that Padres right-hander Walker Buehler had been placed on the postseason paternity list, Reuters reported. Pitcher Randy Vásquez joined San Diego's active roster for the National League Division Series against Milwaukee during Buehler's absence.
Rotation changes for the series opener
Buehler may be away for one to three days. Robbie Ray was scheduled to start Game 1 in Milwaukee on Saturday, with Michael King set for Game 2 on Sunday. The earliest Buehler could return is Game 3, when the best-of-five series moves to San Diego on Tuesday night.
First postseason with San Diego
Buehler went 9–6 with a 4.63 ERA across 32 starts in his first Padres season. The two-time All-Star and former Dodger did not pitch during San Diego's Wild Card Series sweep of the Chicago Cubs. Vásquez finished the regular season 10–6 with a 3.90 ERA in 32 appearances, including 23 starts.
