Sugar, a white peacock known in a Pasadena neighborhood, has recovered and been moved to a private ranch in Northern California, the Los Angeles Times reported October 2. The bird was injured in August when a mail carrier struck it with a rock and a stick.

What it means locally

Pasadena Humane said wildlife experts chose relocation to reduce the risk of another harmful encounter and give Sugar a safer permanent home. The organization investigated the August incident and referred the case to prosecutors, according to the Times. The U.S. Postal Service is also investigating. No criminal charge or final agency finding was reported in the October 2 account, so this story does not characterize the incident beyond the confirmed investigation. The accompanying photograph shows a white peacock in Bali in 2008 and is archival; it is not Sugar or the Northern California ranch.
