Riverside trauma center reports sharp rise in e-bike injuries

Riverside Community Hospital recorded 189 e-bike and scooter injury cases this year, while police counted 22 e-bike crashes.

Riverside Community Hospital has treated 189 people for e-bike and similar-device injuries so far in 2026, NBC Los Angeles reported September 24. The hospital said that was a 122% increase from 2024 and above the 143 patients treated during all of 2025. Riverside police separately reported 22 e-bike crashes since January 1, as trauma specialists urged riders to wear properly fitted helmets and follow traffic laws.

What it means locally

The Riverside City Council delayed a vote this week on a proposed e-bike ordinance. The newly reported injury and crash figures add local data to that discussion, but no new city rule was announced in the report.
