San Diego reports 40 felony arrests from College Area operation

The multi-weekend effort with San Diego State University Police ran from August 19 through September 12 and also resulted in nine misdemeanor arrests.

The San Diego Police Department made 40 felony arrests during its annual College Area public-safety operation, the City of San Diego announced September 25. SDPD and San Diego State University Police conducted the enhanced enforcement during evening and overnight hours from August 19 through September 12.

What it means locally

The city said officers also made nine misdemeanor arrests, recovered four firearms, addressed nearly 150 calls for service—including party calls—and recorded four driving-under-the-influence charges. The operation coincided with the start of the school year, when the College Area typically sees more pedestrian and vehicle traffic, gatherings and calls for police service. The announcement did not provide case dispositions; arrests and charges are not findings of guilt.
