San Diego community colleges post immigration-enforcement warning signs
Signs at 10 campus locations say district property may not be used for immigration-enforcement staging, processing or related operations.

The San Diego Community College District began installing 18-by-30-inch signs October 1 at entry points around its 10 campus locations, KPBS reported through City News Service. The signs say district property may be used only for purposes authorized by the district and may not be used for immigration-enforcement staging areas, processing locations or related operations.
What it means locally
District officials said the signs had been planned since spring but were accelerated after a September 8 incident in which federal immigration agents arrested one person near San Diego City College and briefly pursued another person onto campus before leaving. The district’s contemporaneous statement says its police reported the agents’ presence but did not interact with them, and that district employees do not assist or coordinate immigration enforcement under California law and district policy. KPBS reported that ICE had not responded to its request for comment. The accompanying photograph shows photovoltaic panels on San Diego City College’s Career Technology Center in May 2018 and is archival; it does not show the new signs, federal agents or the September incident.
