San Diego adds coastal police patrols under Operation Blue Tide
The initiative began this weekend and is scheduled to continue until further notice.
San Diego police are increasing patrols in coastal neighborhoods through a new initiative called Operation Blue Tide, according to original reporting by NBC 7 San Diego.
City Council President Joe LaCava announced that the department would dedicate additional resources to coastal areas to address violent crime and protect residents and visitors. Police told NBC 7 that the operation centers on more patrols and faster responses to violence or disruptions.
Program: Operation Blue Tide
Area: San Diego coastal neighborhoods
Action: Increased police patrols and response capacity
Duration: Until further notice
Pacific Beach leaders welcome added presence
The initiative follows recent safety concerns in Pacific Beach, including the fatal shooting of a security guard outside Crystal Pier about two weeks earlier. Local business and neighborhood representatives told NBC 7 that they had already noticed more officers along the boardwalk and hoped the added presence would deter violence.
Officials encouraged residents and visitors to promptly report suspicious behavior and criminal activity.
