San Marcos breaks ground on $25 million Fire Station 5
San Marcos has started work on its fifth fire station, a Measure Q-funded project intended to expand fire and medical-response coverage in the city.
ABC 10News reported Thursday that the new station will be built at North Las Posas Road and Armorlite Drive and will be equipped with a fire engine and ambulance.
Project cost: About $25 million
Local funding: Measure Q sales-tax revenue
State funding: $1.2 million for a new fire engine
City says station will expand emergency coverage
The City of San Marcos said the groundbreaking took place Monday, Oct. 5, at the southeast corner of the intersection. City officials described the project as an investment in faster, better-distributed emergency response, particularly for the city’s west and northwest areas.
Measure Q is a one-cent local sales tax that San Marcos voters approved in November 2024. The city said the station will add capacity for both fire and medical emergencies.
