Bike Fire reaches 68% containment; evacuations lifted
Santa Clarita residents were allowed to return Sunday night after firefighters increased containment and officials reduced every evacuation order and warning to an advisory.
The Bike Fire was reported near Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday. After early acreage estimates changed as the fire moved through rugged terrain, officials mapped the blaze at 172 acres and reported 68% containment at 7:20 p.m.
Mapped area: 172 acres
Containment: 68% as of Sunday evening
Evacuations: All orders and warnings downgraded to advisories at about 8 p.m.
Cause: Under investigation
Residents return as crews continue overnight work
Los Angeles County said residents could safely return home, but advised them to remain alert and keep windows and doors closed because of nearby smoke. The College of the Canyons evacuation shelter and emergency animal shelters closed after the orders were lifted.
County and Angeles National Forest crews used aircraft, including Super Scoopers, as they fought the fire. Officials said firefighters would continue working overnight, and residents should follow the county evacuation map for any further changes.
