Firefighter seriously injured in 118 Freeway blockade crash
A driver crossed an emergency blockade near Tapo Canyon Road and struck a Ventura County fire engine and a firefighter, authorities said.
A Ventura County firefighter was hospitalized with a major injury after a driver crossed an emergency blockade and struck both the firefighter and a fire engine on the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley early Sunday, ABC7 Los Angeles reported September 27, citing the California Highway Patrol. The collision happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. near Tapo Canyon Road.

CHP officers and firefighters had closed the roadway while investigating an earlier collision involving a wrong-way driver. Authorities said a red Tesla entered the blockade and hit the Ventura County Fire Department engine and the firefighter. The driver was arrested, but CHP said foul play was not suspected.
