Six Flags Magic Mountain permanently retired its X2 roller coaster on September 29, park president Brian Oerding announced. Oerding said X2 had passed multiple safety tests but that the park chose to close it after guest confidence was affected. The Associated Press reported that the retirement came amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injuries connected to the ride.

What it means locally

X2 had been closed since July 12 after two riders were hospitalized following separate visits, according to the Associated Press. The ride originally opened as X in 2002 and was redesigned and renamed X2 in 2008 with seats that rotate independently during the course. Six Flags said the attraction welcomed more than 16 million guests under the X2 name. The company did not announce a replacement.
