Contracts lapse for nearly 4,000 Southern California sanitation workers
Teamsters agreements covering workers in five counties expired without tentative deals; negotiations continue and no work stoppage was reported.

Labor contracts covering nearly 4,000 sanitation workers expired at midnight September 30 without tentative agreements between Teamsters Local 396 and seven waste-hauling companies, MyNewsLA reported October 1. The workers are employed across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.
What it means locally
The union identified Republic Services, Waste Management, Athens Services, CR&R, WARE Disposal, Park Disposal and AAA Disposal as the companies involved. Local 396 said bargaining is continuing and warned that the expired agreements raise the possibility of labor disruptions. The companies had not responded to MyNewsLA requests for comment at publication time, and neither the union nor the news outlet reported a strike or service interruption. The accompanying photograph shows a Republic Services collection truck operating in Huntington Beach in August 2023 and is archival; it does not depict current negotiations or a work stoppage.
